Sunshine and Smiles: Triathlon of Compassion 2007 Summary

The fourth annual Triathlon of Compassion race to raise money for the Victoria Womens Sexual Assault Centre was hosted at Naden CFB Esquimalt this morning. The event was organized by Runners of Compassion, with race director, Andrea Carey at the helm of over 100 fabulous volunteers.

The event featured 40 first time triathletes, and 244 participants tackling a 500m swim, 19km bike ride, and 5km run. The triathlon also has a youth division with a 100m swim, 6.8km ride and 1.6km run.

The top three finishers overall were Sean Cunningham (1st), Nathaniel Vaandering (2nd), and Rob Dibden (3rd) in the mens division; and Monique Larche (1st), Lois Fearon (2nd), and Kathleen Brandsma (3rd) in the womens
division.

The event raised over $18000 for the Victoria Womens Sexual Assault Centre, a record amount raised in the four years of the event. Donations are still being accepted by contacting the Centre online at http://www.givemeaning.com/thon/thon1204
